After a record team-wide vote of 134, the winners of the various categories in TeamCuzz's Post-season Poll have been confirmed. How it came to such an odd number is bizarre. Nonetheless, it was celebrated in extravagant fashion, with the ceremony being held at the self-proclaimed 7-star hotel, Burj Al Arab.
The ceremony was attended by Spain's World-Cup winning side (which included the injured-but-soon-to-be-Blue Fernando Torres), Fabio I-used-to-be-extremely-good Cannavarro, Arjen I-really-should-have-scored-that-sitter Robben, and ex, soon to be ex, and should have been ex national coaches - Dunga, Maradona, Vicente Del Bosque & Mr. Capello.
Missing in attendance, though, were TeamCuzz players. This was a major disappointment for stalwarts Lucas Radebe & Andreas Kopke, who had come from afar to see TeamCuzz in flesh. In an official statement released by the club, the club's spokesman said that the players could ill afford to spend a night away from their families during the pre-season. However, rumours are circulating that it is more likely to be related to disgruntled wives not winning the "Supporter of the Season" Award. Teleconferencing was used as the last resort, though it cannot be shown here as StareHub & NyanyiTel is still negotiating the broadcasting rights.
In spirit of the recent World Cup (which could and should have been worn by England if the referee had seen Lampard's superb shot cross the line), the opening had Didier Drogba, Asamoah Gyan and Vincent Enyeama singing the official South Africa 2010 theme song "Waving Flag". The video captured during the ceremony could not be shown to protect the image rights of the innocent. Instead, the official video clip below is shown here for fans' viewing & listening pleasure.
Given the tight budget the organisers were on, winners were only given 12 seconds to give their winning speech before the vuvuzela was sounded as a subtle way to convey the message 'Get lost, now!' And here are the winners, and some highlights of what happened during the award-giving ceremony.
Best Goal of the Season (44%): Syed's delicate clipped shot in 4-1 victory over Real Ale Madrid at Jurong Stadium. Syed's speech: Cool award, but I think someWAN else should have won this instead. If you agree, give me a Hell Yeah! Crowd's reactions: Hell Yeah!
(most comical) MOMENT of the Season (40%): The tale of Hisyam and postponed game in the form of a locked gate at Tanjong Katong. Hisyam's speech: Ooohhhhh, is this your way to tell me something? Point taken. I'll be back! Crowds' reactions: (almost everyone in the crowd had their fingers crossed at that precise moment, with a sigh to follow).
GAME of the Season (55%): 4-1 win against Real Ale Madrid at Jurong Stadium. After the highlights of the game was shown in HD, the likes of Bruce Willis, David Ginola and Carlos Valderamma stood up to applaud.
FORMATION of the Season (50%): 4-3-3 attack (usual formation). Emcee went down to the crowd to ask for the opinion of Real's new manager on the winning formation. Sniggering, he said "That had me return all over it." Mourinho TV reported that he continued to snigger from then on.
PITCH of the Season (50%): Temasek Secondary. Emcee, Suhaimi Yusoff, remarked, "I am sure Shukur, Aidil and Shahrudin didn't vote for this!"
Favourite DRINK of the Season (54%): Fruit Punch. Fazlon's speech: Alamak, what am I gonna do with those 6 bottles of Bird's Nest at home? Ahhhh, can we have more Cuzz meeting at my place?
SUPPORTER of the Season (62%): Mr. Sulaiman (& family). Suhaimi stepped in, again, and said, "Was this ever in doubt? Riduwan, Khairi, & Fazlon must have been the other 3 who voted otherwise. Don't say I didn't help uh."
REPORT of the Season (55%): Ali-ing our way back up (dated 23 Mar). (a review of the Great Ali speeches was played back on the big screen, with the crowd going "Awwwwuuuccchhh" everytime the clip ends).
PARTNERSHIP of the Season (100%): Imran & Hyder. (with a thought of reserving his prepared speech for Midfielder of the Season Award later, Imran let Hyder give the winning speech. Hyder's speech: Wooooohooooo! We knew we were gonna win it the moment we were nominated, simply coz the other partnerships ... hey, what other partnerships?
SUPER SUB of the Season (100%): Naufal. Naufal's speech: Alhamdulillah. Crowd's reactions: (pin-drop silence).
GK of the Season (50%): Edmund. Edmund's speech: I would like to remind you my name is Edmund Wong. Ey Woo. Ey Wee. Ey correct luh Wong. Edmund Wong.
DEFENDER of the Season (50%): Faizul. Faizul's speech: I might have won this but this award belongs to everyo.... (vuvuzela sounded, and tomatoes were thrown instantaneously). Crowd's reactions: (as mentioned).
MIDFIELDER of the Season (50%): Hyder. Hyder's speech: Wooohoooo! Crowd's reactions: 25! 25! 25!
FORWARD of the Season (70%): Syed. Syed's speech: Hell Yeah! Crowd's reactions: (too tired to react).
GOLDEN BOOT Award (100%): Haikal. Haikal's Speech: Like finally! Why didn't you guys just give me as the 1st award? Crowd's reactions: (way too tired to react).
With that, the ceremony concluded. And so does Season 5. Now let's look forward to the pre-season friendlies.
