TeamCuzz fell short

Enthusiasm generated from the TeamCuzz Appreciation dinner the evening before was not spilled to the game. It came to halt & was replaced with worry when TeamCuzz faced Primero in their second game of the season without a recognised goalkeeper. It turned out to be an exciting game ending 3-2 in favour of Primero. What was exciting though was that it almost resembled Sweden's comeback against England in the European U21 Championship a few hours back.

TeamCuzz paraded new signing Hyder Sulaiman, but the presence of other regulars meant that the young prospect started on the bench. Despite the abundance of outfield talent, it is worrisome that there were no goalkeepers available for various reasons. Despite the financial crunch, TeamCuzz might be forced to reenter the market and open their cheque book for a goalkeeper. Although Ross Turnbull & Joe Hart has been linked recently, a 42 year old local by the name of Abdullah seems the most likely candidate to fill the spot between the sticks. Talks are at an advanced stage currently.

Despite dominating the game, TeamCuzz were made to pay for positional indiscipline and reluctance to shoot from distance. Primero gave them a lesson in that as their left midfielder cut in before blasting the ball into the back of the net from afar. A change in formation was contemplated & executed by stand-in manager Shikin at half time. The idea was to beef up the middle of the park, while creating the urgency to turn around the goal deficit. However, it was not to be as TeamCuzz surrendered 2 more goals midway through the half.

The deficit always looked like it will stay the same till the final whistle. However, Shukur & Faisal had other ideas. Both made a difference when they came on as substitutes, perhaps telling the manager that they should be permanently used as Super-subs. They injected urgency, and ultimately goals, towards the end. Shukur grabbed the first when he whacked it against the GK from the right, while Amirul grabbed the second after some good build up from the left wing. Hyder came closest to the equaliser when his effort from outside the box crashed against the crossbar. Primero could only thank their lucky stars for that, as they continued to face the TeamCuzz onslaught while holding on for dear life till the referee's final whistle.

Despite the loss, TeamCuzz players were still happy with their performance and conduct for the game. They will be looking forward to the following game against Premier FC, hoping to conjure their first points of the season.

TeamCuzz (vs Primero on 27 Jun): Faizul, Fazlon, Shahrudin, Khairi, Luqman, Syukri, Kamal, Hyder, Haikal, Khairil, Faisal, Shukur, Imran
