Highlights from the Dinner

As 15 gathered around 2 Sara Rose tables, the past season was reviewed together amidst the Baby Squid Fritters, Seafood Omelette, Tom Yam Soup, Lime Juice, Ice Jelly & irritating cook. It was quite clear that the season has been a success (relative to the 1st one) both on and off the pitch. Individual accolades were picked up by deserved winners (Shahrudin as the season's MVP and Faizul as MIP) via an adhoc SMS poll conducted while the Management team of Zulkhairi, Fazlon, Shahrudin & Khairil were applauded for being the force that kept (and will keep) TeamCuzz running efficiently. However, there are improvements that could be made along the way to bring TeamCuzz to a higher level than she already is. This was the main menu on the table during the dinner.

Despite attempts in previous seasons, TeamCuzz has never made the bold commitment to be ambitious in setting her goals. The goals has always been fuzzy, with the "neither here nor there" feeling to it. This season is different. In a quick poll facilitated by the Manager, players voted 8-7 in favour of "Playing to win". It is set then that TeamCuzz will be entering the season with this mentality, with cooperation seeked from both players playing as well as players who are not playing as often. The most important thing is that the team wins, beyond anything else. A casual remark was even blurted out to reward the win for TeamCuzz's founder, Mr. Haji Jan. As this correspondent sits typing this, he wonders if that should indeed be made a realistic target that each TeamCuzz player regards as a driving force as he trudges through the highs and lows of the season ahead. TeamCuzz will need to be at its best in all departments to even come close to achieving this. The list, though not exhaustive, includes keeping the team spirit high at all times, coming early for team warm-up & briefing, retaining the resounding attendance for every game, keeping up with scoring of goals, notching more cleansheets & most importantly, enjoy playing football.

In addition to getting that top prize, TeamCuzz is also aiming to attain the Fairplay Award this season. That is to say, TeamCuzz will play by the book & the whistle, winning games with style and humility while losing with grace (though not losing would certainly be the best option). Handshakes and cheers for the opponents by all players after the final whistle is encouraged towards attaining this status.

The season is as fresh as those cookies baked in the oven, so it is still very early for the right mentality & attitude to be set. If the attendance still holds at a constant 17 or 19, & everyone continues coming early to warm up and hear the pre-match briefing together at 1430hrs, there is no doubt TeamCuzz will be right up there come the end of the season. & that too will ensure that once empty cupboard in Pengerang will be filled with 2 trophies bearing the name of TeamCuzz.
